Yoga Practice Disclaimer
SarvYoga articles provide general yoga education. A written page cannot observe an individual practitioner, adjust a pose in real time or replace direct instruction.
Practise within a comfortable range
Do not force flexibility, breath length, balance or duration. Reduce the range, use props or stop when a movement becomes uncomfortable or difficult to control.
Use props
Blocks, straps, blankets, bolsters, chairs and walls can make the purpose of a pose easier to understand. Props may be used at any stage of practice.
Learn gradually
Begin with stable foundations before adding advanced variations. Strong breathing methods, retention, bandha, cleansing disciplines, binds and inversions require additional preparation.
Qualified yoga-teacher guidance
Learn unfamiliar and advanced methods from a qualified yoga teacher who can observe posture, breathing, pacing and transitions.
Stop when control is lost
End the practice when there is sharp discomfort, dizziness, numbness, confusion or loss of balance. Return to a neutral position and allow breathing to become ordinary.
Different yoga traditions
Sequences and teaching methods vary across schools and lineages. Follow one clear method at a time instead of combining advanced instructions from several sources.
